About the Internship: As an intern in the Public Information and Conference Management network, you will be based at the Department of Global Communicatins in New York City. Specifically, you will intern in the Visitors Services Section, which plays a crucial role in engaging and educating people worldwide about the ideals and activities of the United Nations. Your responsibilities will include assisting with outreach activities, organizing guided tours and briefings, conducting research on UN thematic issues, providing general office support, and more. This internship is an in-person, unpaid position with a duration of six months, starting in June 2024.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with planning and organizing outreach activities to educate the public about the UN’s work
  • Providing support for the organization of guided tours, briefings, and events
  • Conducting research on UN thematic issues
  • Providing general office support, including drafting correspondence and setting up meetings
  • Assisting with photography and videography to promote Visitors Services
  • Drafting social media content for the Visitors Services Facebook and Twitter accounts
  • Responding to visitors’ queries in-person and in writing
  • Assisting with the development, implementation, and analysis of visitor surveys
  • Performing other duties as required by the department

Qualifications and Skills: To be eligible for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) Additionally, applicants must have:
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word and MS PowerPoint
  • Ability to draft short articles and/or social media posts is desirable
  • Ability to take photos and videos, with basic knowledge of editing and retouching is desirable
  • Fluency in spoken and written English, as English is the working language of the United Nations Secretariat
