Overview of the Position

As a Junior Programme Assistant in the Education for Health and Wellbeing sector, you’ll work under the guidance of the National Professional Officer (NPO) and provide essential support towards the implementation of UNESCO’s UBRAF (UNESCO Basic Research and Innovation Funding) work in Dar-es-Salaam. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of various programs related to health education, with a particular focus on empowering adolescent girls and young women and boys. From establishing Girls Safe Space clubs to promoting digital literacy and online safety, your efforts will contribute to creating a healthier and more informed generation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of Girls Safe Space clubs in secondary schools and folk colleges, including the establishment of referral mechanisms.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of digital literacy and online safety initiatives, as well as youth-led sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) dialogues.
  • Lead the implementation of HIV self-test literacy programs and the introduction of HIV posttest clubs in selected Higher Tertiary Education Institutions (HTEIs).
  • Collaborate with project assistants and communication officers to organize and coordinate relevant meetings, trainings, and workshops, including logistical arrangements and financial reporting.
  • Provide rapporteuring support during meetings and prepare comprehensive activity reports.
  • Offer assistance to the Project Assistant – Education for Health and Wellbeing as needed to ensure the smooth operation of programs and activities.

Required Qualifications

  1. Academic Requirement: A first degree in education, public health, social sciences, or program management.
  2. Relevant Work Experience: At least one year of experience in AGYW&B health-related interventions, preferably with a focus on online health education and digital literacy programs. Previous experience or internships with international organizations or UN agencies is an advantage.
  3. Competencies: Strong communication skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, time management, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  4. Language Skills: Fluency in English (oral and written) is required, and fluency in Kiswahili is a plus.
